Getting Around

By Song Taew
The most popular form of transport for getting around Phuket are Song Taew or Tuk Tuk. For those who stay in Patong, Kata and Karon, a majority of hotels are located close proximity to the beach, outlets, entertainment, restaurants and shopping centres, which easily to reach around on foot. Song Taew is painted in bright blue, which is is cheap and a good way to travel. It also offers you to view Phuket town and local living, but usually slow way of getting around. Song Taew service covers the main routes between the beaches and Phuket Town. As there are no official bus stops, passengers need to wave with the hand when it comes and again flag them down to get off. Fares run from 10 Baht (US .25 cents) to 40 Baht depending on the distance traveled. Beware that Song Taew only runs between early morning and 18:00 but some run till late evening.

By Tuk Tuk
Tuk-Tuks, small red taxi-trucks with open sides, are a common mode of transport for any trips at any durations and times. It can be hailed anywhere along the streets or you can find them parked waiting for passengers. The price is negotiable so please agree in destination and fare before you climb in. The standard rate for a beach area or town should be around than 150-200 Baht, but for trips between town and beach area can be up from 200 -700 Baht - depending on the distance and of course your bargaining skills! Moreover, the fare is paid by the destination traveled not by the number of passengers. If the driver wants to charge by the person, leave him on and catch another. In some areas, particular in Patong, there is a number of Tuk Tuk driver is unpleasant, inadequate, overpriced and impolite. If you ask them for round trip transfers, you must pay them when you journey ended.

By Motorcycle Taxi & For Rent
Motorcycle taxis are everywhere. They dress in a green, red or yellow numbered vests, and usually provide the short trip services. Again it is wise to ask the price before taking them. A journey anywhere within the areas of one town is 30-50 Baht. Longer journeys cost more. Or if who can drive a motorbike you also can rent by  day. You can find around patong or around your location hotel. The price for rent per day bike type 110 cc – 135 cc  per day price can be up from 200 – 400 Baht.Remark: Be careful about accident. Because they will charge you money.
Cars for Rent
Cars and jeeps can be found at several locations around Phuket, and price is reasonable. Vehicle can be rent a one location and drop off at another with 200 Baht charged. Sedan car begins costs from 800 - 1500 Baht a day (fuel excluded). Personal driving is one of the best ways to explore the island. You will need a valid international driver license to rent the car in Thailand. Besides, take a photocopy of your passport as some rental companies will require to keep the original. Make sure that you are hiring is covered by insurance. Unless hiring from a reliable entity if it is not insured for accident - You are subject to pay for all damages to the vehicle. By law, a driver and front seat passenger must fasten the seat belts before driving.

Keep in mind that the road accident rate per capital in Phuket and Thailand are high. Please drive and ride carefully at all times! If you are traveling with children, don’t risk renting a motorbike. Rent a car or jeep.
